Blitz scoop 'special achievement award' in regional employer final
2006 Dec 05 Blitz Games Studios today celebrates winning the ‘Special Achievement Award’ at last night’s Employer of Choice Award Ceremony. The event, hosted at the Hilton in Warwick was organized by Warwickshire County Council to identify the region’s best employers.
Brothers Andrew and Philip Oliver were singled out ‘for being great bosses and creating an exceptional working environment.’ The company has a staff turnover of less than 2% - a particularly notable achievement in what is often seen to be an unstable industry.
Philip Oliver, CEO and co-founder of Blitz Games Studios commented, “I’m truly delighted to have won this award, we are firm believers in our staff and consider them our most valuable and greatest asset. We work in a tremendously competitive market and will continue to do all we can to make Blitz a fantastic place to work.”
Andrew Oliver, CTO and co-founder of Blitz Games Studios commented, “Due to the exceptional work of our staff we are being offered many more exciting game projects. Winning an award like this demonstrates to potential new recruits the benefits of joining the Blitz team.“
Geraldine Randle, HR Manager for Blitz Games Studios added, “We strive to provide the best environment for the best people and won’t be resting on our laurels – we will continue to encourage our staff to challenge themselves and grow both personally and professionally.”
Warwickshire County Council, who organize the annual Warwickshire Employer of Choice Awards, encourage organizations to give their employees reasons to stay rather than reasons to leave. It makes good business sense! The event aims to recognize organizations that are winners in terms of their commitment to work-life balance policies and are very clear about the benefits of looking after their staff.
The judges presented the Award with the words, “The final award tonight goes to an organisation that has created a unique working environment in an industry where competition for skilled staff is fierce. The company is incredibly flexible, offers a comprehensive benefits package and regular champagne celebrations on completion of projects. It has recently launched its own training academy to encourage all staff to undergo structured personalised training. To contribute to the local community the company has worked extensively with Education Business Partnership over the last six years. People are extremely happy and motivated and the positive enthusiasm for the organisation is infectious. This final Award goes to two brothers who started developing computer games in 1981. They are co-owners of a company where they have created a fabulous environment and culture for talented people in what is seen as a turbulent industry. The brothers are hands-on, well respected, incredibly enthusiastic and sincere and very much liked by their staff.
This Special Achievement Award in the Large Employer Category goes to Blitz Games Studios, Leamington Spa, and to Philip and Andrew Oliver for being great bosses and for creating an exceptional working environment.”
