Blitz opens doors exclusively to students

2006 May 03 Blitz Games Studios, one of Europe's largest independent video game developers is holding two Open Days exclusively for U.K. university students hoping to enter the games industry.
The developer of major forthcoming titles Reservoir Dogs™ (Sci under the Volatile Games brand) for current generation consoles and SpongeBob SquarePants™ (THQ) for consoles including Nintendo's Wii® is inviting potential industry employees to a unique behind-the-scenes look at how it creates these high profile games.

To celebrate moving into their substantial new offices, Blitz will offer fifty students (twenty five per day) the unique opportunity to quiz senior executives, lead programmers, designers, artists, producers and animators at the company's Midlands-based headquarters. Each day will feature of a full tour of the company's new facilities and a series of informative presentations about the fast-moving games industry and the methods required to meet the challenges of producing high quality and commercially successful games.

"It's like 'Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory' for students that want to enter the games industry! It's a fantastic opportunity to see mainstream videogames in production and meet the people making them. We hope this will lead to real careers for some of the lucky few that apply to visit, if nothing else they will have a brilliant day and learn SO much", said Philip Oliver, CEO and co-founder of Blitz Games Studios.

Furthermore, ten very lucky students will be randomly selected for sponsorship by Blitz who will pay for all costs for their travel and accommodation to the event. All attendees will be invited to join the company staff for an 'after-show' party.

Paula Moses, Sector Manager for Interactive Media, Computer Games and Animation for Skillset added, "Skillset actively encourages and promotes opportunities for the games industry to get involved with education and training. Offering students the opportunity to get an inside view of a studio in this way provides great benefits for everyone concerned. Blitz's commitment to nurturing the next generation of game makers has often been demonstrated and this is another example of a positive initiative on their part." www.skillset.org

"I welcome Blitz's initiative because ultimately the best sort of collaboration is where students learn from the industry itself. I'm also delighted Blitz is putting effort into the next generation of employees which is crucial in the long term as we need to ensure we have a highly skilled labour force in the future." Fred Hasson, CEO. TIGA (The Independent Game Developers Association). www.TIGA.org

Initially two dates are planned - 16th June & 6th July 2006.
Closing Date for applications is 31st May 2006.
