Blitz Open Days a huge success
2006 Aug 01 Blitz Games Studios today announced that due to the overwhelming success of its Open Days it will organise more and further increase their involvement with the U.K.'s Universities and Colleges.
The company held two Open Days, in June and July, exclusively for students and a third on the 20th July for lecturers and others involved in the courses aimed at future games industry employees. In total 50 students from as far all over the U.K. attended under their own steam, followed by 25 lecturers from the country's leading Universities including Teesside, Birmingham and Glamorgan Centre for Art & Design Technology. Also present were three representatives from Skillset's Computer Games Forum, of which Blitz has been an active participant since its inception.
Philip Oliver, co-founder and Managing Director of Blitz Games Studios commented, "We are aware that there is a growing skills shortage in the games industry and are committed to working with educators and students to improve the situation. We've currently got over 20 vacancies at Blitz and are aware that other developers are seeking new staff too. We believe it's important for the future of the business to hire talented, experienced industry professionals while nurturing the up and coming talent of the future."
Claz Gomez, a student from Bradford University who attended the first Open Day said, "I felt very lucky to have been given the opportunity to visit Blitz. I was extremely inspired and the enjoyable day has really helped me learn what standards are expected from students in order to be considered for employment."
The number and variety of courses on offer to students grows every year but educators find it increasingly difficult to keep pace with the rapidly changing development world, hence their enthusiasm for the Open Days organised by Blitz.
Neil Hadford, University of Central England commented, "The day was a terrific opportunity to gain meaningful insight into Blitz's rationale, providing interesting information that will prove very useful."
The Open Days consisted of informative presentations from each of the departments within the development studio together with a tour of the facility and opportunities to question staff and discuss the process of game development.
Blitz will announce details of further Open Days in the near future.
