Blitz Academy launched!
2007 Apr 24 Blitz Games Studios today announces the formation of its internal training programme - Blitz Academy. The Academy represents an industry leading internal training solution designed to train employees in new skills and share knowledge across all departments.
The Blitz Academy was formed as part of the company’s ongoing training commitment and began by evaluating the learning requirements for the studio’s artists. After several productive internal meetings it became obvious that a broader company-wide training procedure could be designed to foster a culture of continuous development and career progression.
In addition to external training providers, The Academy offers Blitz employees peer-to-peer training from internal 'gurus' in each discipline and takes place during normal working hours at the studio in Leamington Spa.
Blitz Academy Training Modules are developed and presented internally by relevant staff and a number have already been successfully run, including: Artistic Anatomy, Maya Rigging, Z Brush, Audio Design and Presentations Skills.
CEO Philip Oliver commented: "At this stage in a console's life cycle it is nearly impossible to find external training suppliers who know as much as we do about the technology and tools we are working with, not to mention our specific needs. By developing our most experienced staff by helping them to become trainers we are able to pass this knowledge on quickly and efficiently."
Human Resources Manager Geraldine Randle agrees: "Blitz has always prided itself on maintaining a creative and stable environment for all its staff, so training and staff development have long been paramount in that goal. Establishing the Academy has enabled us to combine the existing external training solutions with an unrivalled internal knowledge base to provide what we believe is some of the most targeted and productive training available."
Following the recent signing of its largest next-gen project to date, Blitz Games Studios is continuing to actively recruit across all disciplines and has one of the lowest staff turnover rates in the industry, averaging below 2%.
