The role of the Graphic Designer is to provide graphic-based design concepts and materials as well as any associated promotional/marketing materials. They are also responsible for providing assistance and support to game development teams, as and when required.
This role involves the design and production of graphics for a wide range of requirements including documents, logos, flyers and advertising in a range of different mediums and may also involve the creation and overseeing of print jobs including any liaising with external companies where required.
Specific requirements for this role:
The candidate must be able to demonstrate high quality, professional design skills, as well as a good working knowledge of print, web, typography and user-interface design principles. Also essential is the desire to be a part of the overall design process. This is a multi disciplinary role that requires high levels of creativity and self-motivation.

Duties
Below is a non-exhaustive list of the Company's expectations of a Graphic Designer. Whilst the job holder may focus and specialise in one particular area below, they are expected to have knowledge of all areas and be able to provide support or cover as required.
Graphic Design
- Design, layout and assemble the visual elements of required documents (pitch and high concept documents) under the direction of designers and high concept planners
- Design Logos, flyers and brochures for print
- Advertising for both print and web
- Designs for PowerPoint templates and graphics
- Create style guides for documentation with a high emphasis on colour theory and respective brands.
- Create ‘graphic design' centric game art assets
- Point of sale, marketing and PR materials
- Temporary secondment to game development teams and other company departments when required.
Game User-Interface & Menu Design
- Conceptualise and prototype interface functionality, look, and feel.
- Create the in-game front end menu systems
- Create the in-game heads-up displays
- Design and implement console specific front ends and menu systems
- Create ‘graphic design' centric game art assets
Web Design
- Initial web design concepts created to a high standard, to the provided brief with both design and functionality considered.
- Redesign and problem-solving to requirements of each Website as required
- Ability to build websites using HTML and/or Flash
- Provide final artwork to Web Coder for implementation
Essentials
- Graphic Design - A working knowledge, appreciation and application of primary graphic design principles including layout geometry, visual arts and typography as well as experience with associated software package such as Illustrator and InDesign. Specifically the use and application of numerous artistic and professional disciplines which focus on visual communication and presentation. The use of various methods to design, create and combine symbols, images and/or words to create a visual representation of ideas and messages from the game system. Production disciplines include: -

- Colour theory application
- Artistic Flexibility - A robust broad spectrum of artistic ability demonstrating a diverse range of art styles across different game genres with a natural ability to generate a wide variety of ideas and styles for any given brief. You must be able and willing to illustrate ANY subject matter in ANY art style required.
- Conceptual Flexibility - Ability to evolve and develop visual concepts either alone with great freedom or within a very closely defined set of briefed criteria.
- Multi-tasking - Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in an often pressurised, creative and time sensitive environment.
- Resilience - Good strength of character is essential especially with regard to receiving and acting upon artistic direction from different sources, iterative artwork development and a clear acceptance of the often ‘disposable' nature of conceptual artwork.
- Team Player - A self-motivated team player who is open minded and conscientious with proven track record of thriving under pressure in a team orientated environment. The ability to professionally evaluate and act on feedback and ideas from multiple sources within the company is a core skill. Working effectively as part of a team by collaborating with other artists, designers, managers and clients is vital to this position.
Beneficial Qualities
- General games industry experience is preferred, especially an understanding of and ability to work within the limitations of real time games and console products.
- Technical games industry experience is a major plus - especially a working knowledge of 2D art production, 3D modelling, animation and texturing. Similarly, interest and understanding of game design methodologies and the processes necessary to create good game play would be advantageous.
- 3D - Experience with 3D logo design as a basis for artwork is a major plus point.
- Pre-visualisation - The ability to rapidly prototype a user interface look and flow - primarily using After Effects and supported with industry standard packages such as Flash / Dreamweaver.
Formal Qualifications
In terms of formal qualifications, it is agreed that levels of attainment should not be set. At Blitz Games Studios we adopt an approach that relevant higher qualifications are ‘preferred' as opposed to ‘required' for UK/European and other ‘work legal' applicants, however to be considered for this role demonstrable skills and ability in the role requirements will be expected and sought.
